Just over two decades ago, in March 2002, Johann and Lauren de Klerk opened the Ballito branch of Cupboard Value and they have grown the business ever since.

“We were freshly married and had just moved down from Pretoria. It was an exciting time then and we have both loved getting to know more of this wonderful community,” said Lauren.

As one of the longest operating branches, Cupboard Value Ballito has maintained that familial feel throughout, despite consistent growth and expansion.

Many of the team-members have been employed for more than 10 years, while repeat customers also add to the family feel that has developed.

It is proof that a family-run business that looks after its own is able to weather any storm it encounters.

“We have stayed together and always work as a team first. This has stood us in good stead as we have navigated difficult times, such as the past 2 years of Covid-19,” she said.

Johann and Lauren are still hands on in the business and their oversight has kept the quality of work produced at Cupboard Value Ballito consistently high.

Together they identified a growing trend, which has seen the kitchen become the central hub of households, rather than just being a place to prepare food.
