
It was an action filled day at the King Shaka International Airport when heroin, illegal skin lightening cream and counterfeit clothing altogether worth over R20 million was intercepted today (Thursday).
SA Revenue Services (SARS) officials using detector dogs found 15.63 kg of heroin with a street value of R3.1 million hidden in the lids of mascara containers being freighted to Liberia.
The case has been handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
In the second incident, 2469 kg of illegal skin lightening cream valued at R12.9 million was intercepted.
The shipment was bound for Durban from Lagos and had been labelled as hair attachments.
Lastly, 7 380 counterfeit branded football shirts valued at R6.2 million were intercepted in a shipment from Hong Kong to Durban.
Airports Company South Africa senior corporate affairs manager Colin Naidoo said he was was pleased with SARS efforts.
“We would like to not see drugs or any other illegal products brought into the country. We would like to commend SARS on their work.”
