Four guns recovered in KwaDukuza

The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to check if they were used in any crimes in the province.

Four unlicensed guns were found in a stolen car parked at the KwaDukuza Checkers parking lot on Friday.

KZN police spokesperson lieutenant colonel Thulani Zwane said the police were conducting a search as part of festive season operations.

Police followed up information about suspects who were in possession of unlicensed firearm at KwaDukuza taxi rank.

“While at the rank, police noticed a suspicious white Audi parked at Checkers’ parking lot. There was no one inside. The vehicle was searched and unlicensed firearms including an R5 rifle, AK47 rifle, Dash Prod SAR14 rifle and a 9mm pistol with ammunition were found.”

The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to check if they were used in any crimes in the province.

“No one was arrested but we are confident that the suspects will be arrested soon. The vehicle was stolen at Umhlali area in May this year.”

The car has been impounded. Two people aged 25 and 32 were arrested for being in possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm at Sundumbili in Mandeni on Saturday.

The arrested suspects have appeared at the Nyoni Magistrate’s Court.
