Man arrested for livestock theft in Bhamshela

He will be profiled to see if he is linked to any other stock theft cases.

A man suspected of stealing livestock at Ngcongangconga area in Bhamshela, upper Tongaat, was arrested on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old man was arrested at Hlathikhulu area when he was found in possession of  the three stolen cattle.

According to KZN SAPS spokesperson, captain Nqobile Gwala, the man had been a resident for some time.

“All three cattle were positively identified by the owner and returned to the lawful owner. His modus operandi was to seek employment as a cattle header and would change his surname. After familiarising himself with the area and livestock, he would steal and sell stock in different areas such as Nsuze, Pietermaritzburg, Maphumulo, and Ndwedwe,” said Gwala.

He will be profiled to see if he is linked to any other stock theft cases reported in KwaZulu-Natal.

He will appear at Nsuze Magistrates’ Court.
