Missing Durban man’s charred remains discovered in Ndwedwe

Six people have been arrested and charged with kidnapping and murder.

The charred remains of a Durban man who went missing last Friday were found in Ndwedwe on Tuesday.

Owing to excellent detective work, police have since arrested and charged six suspects.

Mluleki Alex Gwala (20), Mvelo Hlambisa (19), Mnqobi Hoboyi (19), Nkanyiso Mathenjwa (28), Nkululeko Mpanza (19) and Sipheaihle Vilakazi appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court this morning for the kidnapping and murder of Alan Gordon (57) from Greenwood Park.

According to a police report, Gordon was last seen on Friday, March 8 leaving his home. He did not show up for work that day.

Police searched Gordon’s home on Tuesday.

Although his two dogs and his silver VW T-Roc were there, Gordon was not.

But when police opened the car, they were struck by an unpleasant smell coming from inside the vehicle.

Neighbours provided information that led police to two men who lived with Gordon, one of which allegedly revealed that Gordon had been killed and his body dumped in rural Ndwedwe.

Police traced thier suspects to a house at Emaphephetheni in Inanda where four men were arrested.

One of the men allegedly confessed that they had assaulted, strangled and stabbed Gordon in the neck.

His body was wrapped in a blanket, put in the boot of his car and driven to Ndwedwe before being set alight.

Police tracked down the crime scene in Ndwedwe, only to find that the body had already been discovered by the local police.

The following evening (Wednesday night), another suspect, understood to have been in a relationship with the deceased and who was carrying the deceased’s cell phone was brought to police by a family member.

After appearing in court this morning, the accused were given back into the custody of Greenwood Park Saps while they continue the investigation.
