Teen arrested for rape of minor
The girl was left severely traumatised by the incident which occurred on July 19.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested last Wednesday for allegedly raping a nine-year-old minor in Doringkop last year.
The iLembe district Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit’s investigation of the case led to the teen’s arrest in the Amawoti area in Inanda.
He was identified as the victim’s cousin.
The girl was left severely traumatised by the incident which occurred on July 19.
It is alleged that after the rape the boy fled the scene and moved to Inanda to live with his parents.
iLembe police spokesperson captain Alex Thomson said the victim underwent psychological counselling, during which she provided key information to the police.
“Upon receiving crucial information about the suspect’s location from the victim’s family, the FCS unit acted swiftly and arrested the suspect within hours,” Thomson said.
The suspect appeared in the KwaDukuza Child Justice Court on April 4 and will appear again next month.
