Woman killed in hit-and-run incident in Tongaat

The driver was arrested and charged with culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

A 23-year-old male was arrested for a fatal hit-and-run incident in Tongaat which claimed the life of a 37-year-old woman.

The incident occurred on Noodsburg Road on Saturday. The driver later surrendered himself at the Tongaat police station.

“He admitted to being behind the wheel during the hit-and-run incident. Additionally, police detected a strong odour of alcohol emanating from the driver, indicating possible intoxication,” said Tongaat police spokesperson, Captain Jasanathan Naidoo.

He said the man was charged with culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

This incident follows the death of a 37-year-old construction worker in a hit-and-run on the M4 last month.

The Philani informal settlement resident, Nomusa Dlamini, was performing pre-warning flag duty at a construction site near Desainagar when she was hit.
