Selso seals the deal

uShaka Marine World has a very cute new resident – Selso the seal.

A very sick, undernourished Selso was found stranded on a beach on the Lower South Coast on June 28 and has been receiving care at uShaka for the past eight weeks.

When he was found the 22-month-old elephant seal was underweight at 70kg. After some TLC he has grown to a healthier 130kg.
He eats 12kg of squid, hake, pilchards every day and should enter a moulting period soon when his appetite will decrease.

uShaka has decided to release Selso when he reaches 180kg. He will be tagged with a satellite tag which will transmit daily data on exactly where he is, and what he is doing.

In the mean time Selso is enjoying his adoring fans at the marine world.
