Whether you are looking for something to while away a beautiful day, or have a group of visitors to entertain, one of these five Down Town activities is sure to work.

1. Angling from the rocks

Salmon Bay and Ballito Pool are great spots for fishing in the evening. Look out for some big Stumpies and Kob. The point at the pool is one of the deeper spots and will offer anything from Couta to Stumpie. Salmon Bay and Ballito pool are generally busy during the day with bathers and boat launching and are therefore not ideal fishing spots during the day. Be sure to obtain the necessary licensing from Ezimvelo and keep to the daily bag limits.

2. Walk or jog along the promenade

Take a leisurely stroll along the picturesque promenade while taking in spectacular views of the Indian ocean. The Ballito promenade starts at Salmon Bay and stretches all the way to Willard Beach.

3. Tackle the famous Ballito stairs

This is a popular training route for runners preparing for challenging races. The stairs run all the way from Townsend Park to Down Town Ballito.

4. Dolphin and whale watching

The Dolphin Coast is renowned for its dolphins and whales and Salmon Bay is no exception. Have a seat on the lookout benches along the promenade and watch the magic unfold. Binoculars will bring the marine action closer and do not forget to bring a telephoto lens for some great shots of these magnificent marine animals.

5. Surfing and body boarding

Salmon Bay is well-known for great wave action. A land breeze brings a brilliant left break. A light wetsuit may be required during winter months as the sea temperature sometimes drops below 20 degrees Celsius.
