Community rallies for Courier Orphan Fund

Love and warmth for those less fortunate.

Donations flooded in as North Coasters again opened their hearts in support of the annual North Coast Courier Orphan Fund Soup, Socks and Snuggles collection drive.

Teachers and parents from Ashton International College, Crawford North Coast, Curro Mount Richmore, Umhlali Prep and Hillbilly Pre-Primary inspired the pupils to generously contribute to help keep the vulnerable children in their community warm and full this winter.

Supermarkets in Ballito, including Lifestyle Spar and Checkers, placed collection boxes outside their stores which members of the public filled with packets of soup, tinned food, blankets, socks and beanies.

Big businesses again threw their weight behind the initiative with Ellies Durban donating no less than 400 brand new blankets and Unilever giving boxes of instant soup. Zap Signs in Ballito kindly sponsored the marketing material for the collection.

After running for three months, the campaign reeled in a total of 4 242 items, that will be distributed to various projects in the Ilembe District over the next two weeks.

North Coast Courier Orphan Fund secretary, Rose Stephenson, was ecstatic about the response.

“A very big thank you to this generous community we live in which has once again overwhelmed the Orphan Fund with a record breaking collection of food and warmth for vulnerable children.”
