New Billy Nair education desk

Re-elected chairman urge delegates to focus on children's education.

The inaugural meeting of the Billy Nair Education Desk took place on Wednesday, August 5 at the Tongaat Secondary School Hall.

The interim committee that operated for about 24 months was dissolved and a new constitution of the education desk adopted with new elections being held. Lajeeth Maharaj, who was the interim chairman, was re-elected chairman with Kola Govender as vice chairman.

In his address, Maharaj stated that the education desk has been supporting quality public education by engaging in activities aimed at enhancing the culture of teaching and learning. He also lamented the lack of integrity and the decay of moral standards among people in positions of power.

He urged delegates to refocus their energies on the children and their education as they are our biggest investment.

Selvan Chetty, CES circuit manager, complimented the work of the desk and was very grateful for the good work being done by the members.
