An extraordinary experience

Former Miss Ballito finalist and judge tells us why it is such a great competition for the girls.

Simbithi Country Club turned into a motivational pamper party last Saturday, as inspiring ladies and one gentleman shared their pearls of wisdom with the Miss Ballito finalists.

The speakers included current Miss Ballito, Kirsten Martins, Summer Hill House’s Lisa Worthy, Tash Barnard from Tash B Pilates, Kirsty Turco of Red Lips Studio, Selinah Seshibe from Mangwanani Spa and Craig Gokhale from Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology.

Gokhale probably gave the girls the most exciting motivation, as he offered each finalist a full bursary to study a degree or diploma, depending on their matric results, at the Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology.

These amazing opportunities is the exact reason why former Miss Ballito finalist and current judge, Yolanda Tembe, is so proud to be associated with the Miss Ballito pageant.

“I entered Miss Ballito, because I was new to the area and knew nobody. My family is also passionate about giving back to the community, so Miss Ballito was the perfect platform to do both,” said Tembe with her friendly charm.

Tembe said although she did not win the title, she won so much more.

“I met so many wonderful, interesting people and have learnt more life lessons than any school could have taught me,” said Tembe, who is now a final year law student at the University of KZN.

The inspiring, young lady said Miss Ballito has opened many doors for her and has allowed her the opportunity to give back to the community.

“During the pageants, I was sponsored by Virgin Active. They were a huge blessing to me and I could not have asked for anything better,” she said.

“Miss Ballito is a world class pageant and a great opportunity for any business to give back by sponsoring a finalist, while getting huge exposure through the competition.”

She added that the funds go to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, Summerhill House and other rotary approved local charities.

Tembe is still involved in both Miss Ballito and community projects.

“Kirsten Martins and I do pop up shops together and promotions for local brands, such as Chilloes slops. I am also part of the feeding scheme at my church in Ballito and hope to work with Summerhill House again soon.”
