Grandfather sentenced to 36 years for rape
Grandchildren visited their grandfather when he raped them.
A 55-year-old grandfather was convicted and sentenced for two counts of rape in the Verulam Regional Court on Thursday, August 19.
He was sentenced to an effective 36 years imprisonment.
On June 1, 2013 two girls aged 10 visited their grandfather at Matholamnyama, Ndwedwe.
While they were sleeping the accused came to their room and raped them.
They told their mother what happened and two cases of rape were opened at Ndwedwe police station.
The KwaDukuza Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit took over the investigation and the accused was arrested and charged accordingly.
