Disappearing data upsets consumers

Airtime and data mysteriously disappearing from consumers' phones.

Complaints have been streaming in from consumers who have been losing large amounts of cellphone and internet data.

Ballito residents commented on the Meet My Neighbour Facebook page saying that they have never run out of data before, but suddenly for the past few months they would be out of tens of gigs of data before the middle of the month.

This applies to all networks including Telkom, Vodacom and MTN.

While some decided to upgrade their contracts to uncapped, others have decided to take the fight to their network providers.

The National Consumer Commission received hundreds of complaints from consumers and are investigating the compliance of contract terms and conditions of network providers.

The commission said they will launch a full scale investigation and will check the terms and conditions relating to the Consumer Protection Act.
