School chairman in trouble for pointing gun at soccer match

Man draws his gun after an argument at a local soccer match.

A Durban Metro police officer and Shakaskraal Primary School governing body chairperson has being accused of misusing his firearm and intimidating people on Shakaskraal Primary School grounds.

On Sunday afternoon during a soccer match, an argument reportedly broke out between the assistant coach of one of the teams and the referee.

The police officer who was off duty reportedly intervened, threatened the assistant coach and held him by his t-shirt.

According to Umhlali Detective constable Sthembiso Mfeka the assistant coach was complaining to the referee about the absence of assistant referees.

“According to the statement given to me by the assistant coach and witnesses, the officer told the coach to wait for him, he was going to get his gun,” said Mfeka.

Allegedly he came back with a gun and a sjambok. He went past the coach and pointed the gun at another man who was not even part of the argument.

The accused refused to comment and demanded to be told who had given his number to the Courier.
