Police issue stern warning to taxi associations

Taxi members threaten buses and other taxis south of Durban.

KwaZulu-Natal police warned all members of the different taxi associations in the province after an incident between taxis and buses in Austerville, south of Durban.

Police said members must refrain from accosting and attacking buses and other minibus taxis that have been privately hired in the area to transport commuters.

This comes after youth from other townships were attending climate change workshops, hosted by the South Durban and Environmental Alliance at the Austerville Civic Centre.

Buses and minibus taxis were hired to transport them and members of the local taxi association allegedly attacked the drivers and threatened them with firearms.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said firm action will be taken against offenders whose actions amount to crime and threaten the safety of other commuters.
