The drought has hit Umdloti hard, as residents went to bed on Wednesday night without water and woke up to dry taps the next morning.
Umdloti UIP manager, Terry Rens said water restrictions have been implemented.
Ethekwini head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa said Umdloti Water Works (WW) supplies predominantly the northern half and Hazelmere Dam and the Waterloo Reservoir supplies the southern half,” said Mthethwa.
“With the Umdloti WW not being able to produce the daily supply of water, the shortfall of supply is being supplemented from Hazelmere Dam, which currently stands at 25 percent.”
She said the northern areas will have restrictors installed, similar to the southern area to achieve a 50 percent reduction in demand.
“Due to the height difference in the Umdloti, the lower lying consumers will need to control their water use to allow the system to fill up and supply the upper lying consumers.”
