Umvoti toll becoming dangerous
Drivers have reportedly been robbed on both sides of the toll when they have stopped on the side of the road.

There have recently been a spate of robberies on the N2 committed before and after the Umvoti Toll Plaza at Thembeni, Groutville.
It has been reported that drivers have been robbed on both sides the toll when they have stopped on the side of the road.
KwaDukuza SAPS acting station commander Colonel Mdumseni Nene said the victims have mostly been truck drivers. He said they have been robbed when they have paid at the toll and decide to take a rest or to make a phone call.
“These thugs hold them up at knifepoint or at gunpoint and take their belongings. But their days are numbered,” promised Nene.
A few groups suspected of robbing people near the toll had been arrested, he said, but there were others.
“Some are from Groutville or KwaMashu as well as from other areas in KZN. They typically come by train, arriving in the mornings and leaving in the afternoons, but even at night it is not safe in that area.”
Nene said the area was patrolled but due to the high demand for police vans, they could not afford to have officers permanently stationed at the toll plaza.
The transport department has not replied to questions on the matter.
