A woman was saved from being burnt alive on the N2 near Zinkwazi in the early hours of this morning when a good Samaritan used his 4×4 to separate two crashed vehicles after one of the vehicles caught alight.

IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Samantha Meyrick said the two vehicles had collided after one of them reportedly attempted to make a U-turn on the N2 .

“One person was killed and two others were seriously injured. A passing motorist managed to separate the vehicles before the fire spread to the other vehicle that had a female passenger trapped inside,” said Meyrick.

Later this morning a vehicle rolled on the N2 south near the Mandeni bridge.

“The vehicle hit the pillar of the bridge and the driver was trapped in the wreckage. He was extricated by the Mandeni Rural Fire department.”

The AMS helicopter arrived to transport the critically injured man, however he died before he could be airlifted to hospital.
