Man drowns during baptism in Umdloti
It is believed the man disappeared in the water during the service.
A 23-year-old man drowned in Umdloti during a baptism service in the ocean around midday on Monday.
Paul Herbst, IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson said the service was being held about 2km away from Umdloti’s North Beach, towards La Mercy lagoon.
“The lifeguards pulled him out of the water and started CPR before advanced life support paramedics took over,” said Herbst.
He said paramedics tried to resuscitate the man for another 40 minutes, but the man passed away.
