A 48-year-old man drowned in the La Mercy Beach lagoon on Friday afternoon.
Lifeguards recovered his body from the lagoon at around 1.45pm.
IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst said the reason for the man’s drowning is unknown at this stage.
“He came into difficulty while swimming in the lagoon and was found dead upon arrival of the lifeguards,” said Herbst.
“The man was under the water in excess of 40 minutes and unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him.”
