A disabled senior citizen from Nkobongo is in desperate need of a wheelchair or prosthetic shoe.
Busisiwe Mazeka (63) lost her foot last year April after she stepped on a nail at her sister’s house in Ndwedwe.
“I went to check the construction progress at my sister’s house when I was hurt. I went to Montebello Hospital in Dalton, where I was given an injection and tablets,” said Mazeka.
When the wound did not heal and the pain was getting worse, she returned to the hospital and was taken to Greys Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.
“I was injected and fell asleep. When I woke up from the anesthetic I found my foot had been chopped off. They said they had no choice, because if they had not cut off my foot, I could have died,” said Mazeka.
Mazeka had six children, who have all passed away. She stays with her granddaughter who is taking care of her. They depend on Mazeka’s grant for food.She said for her to be able to move around easily she needs a wheelchair or the prosthetic shoe.
