Beers with a view in Ballito

After a long week’s slog at the office, nothing quite matches an ice-cold beer as a way to wind-down for the weekend.

Our reporter Graham Barclay took up the challenge of searching out some of the best local pubs, where you can have your beer and a view.

Gianni’s, Ballito

Gianni’s Ristorante is a great place to escape the summer heat and enjoy a cold beer.

A vibey beach-front Italian restaurant with a good selection of local draught and bottled beers, Gianni’s offers an expansive view of the coastline for you to take in while you savour each  mouth-watering sip.

A restaurant first and foremost, drinks can only be served over a delicious lunch or dinner, but this will secure you a table and one of the best possible views of the Dolphin Coast.  

An array of cocktails are also soon to be introduced, which diners can look forward to.

Secure yourself a window seat and view the coast stretching from Salmon Bay to Durban, with the Moses Mabhida stadium clearly visible on a sunny day.

La Montagne, Ballito

Known as one of the go-to places in Ballito during holiday season as well as events such as the Ballito Pro and the Rage Festival, this beach-front resort hotel is also ideal for a quiet after-work beer with its stunning sea view and laid-back coastal atmosphere.

While they only stock local brew, sit on the upper deck above the pool area and you will be rewarded with a scenic view of the Dolphin Coast.

Hops, Ballito

Hops is a great place to drink a classic beer while relaxing and absorbing a beautiful sea-view.

Choose your seating wisely and you can be close enough to smell the ocean spray while you and your friends pour back the pints.

Popular local lagers such as Windhoek and Castle Lite are available, as well as imported draughts like Heineken and bottled craft beers such as the popular Black Jack, so you’re never short of choice.

Plus, this beach-front pub shares the same name as the most important ingredient in beer, which is certainly a step in the right direction!

Boathouse & Thava Indian Restaurant, Ballito

Add some Indian Ocean flavour to your glass of beer as the waves crash just a stone’s throw away from where you are seated as you take your time to quench your thirst.

A lovely and relaxing setting with a choice of local and imported beers such as Peroni, Cobra and Stella Artois to choose from.

Sit in front of the inviting swimming pool and enjoy the ocean view just beyond it as you kick-back and relax.
