Two alleged local drug dealers arrested
Drugs to the street value of R120 000 were confiscated.
Two men believed to be drug dealers were arrested last week with drugs in their possession to the street value of about R120 000.
Umhlali SAPS and KwaDukuza crime intelligence arrested the men in Nkobongo and Ntshawini, last Wednesday, January 13.
In Ntshawini the accused was found in possession of whoonga and methaqualone (otherwise known as Mandrax or buttons), and the man in Nkobongo was in possession of whoonga.
Whoonga, which is also known as ‘nyaope’ or ‘wunga’ is a street drug made of a mix of cannabis, heroin or methamphetamine, depending on what is available.
Warrant officer Mandla Ngema from Umhlali SAPS said drugs were a huge problem along the North Coast, and these dealers were only two of many more.
“We will be conducting more operations to fight drug dealing and illegal firearms in the townships,” said Ngema.
