Couple jumps off La Mercy bridge
A couple had to be rescued from La Mercy lagoon after jumping off the bridge last night.
A man and a woman had to be rescued by emergency services last night when they jumped off La Mercy bridge into the lagoon below.
Advanced life support paramedic at IPSS Medical Rescue, Peter Kenyon, who was involved in the rescue of the pair, said the reasons for them jumping off the bridge is still unknown at this stage.
“After jumping off the bridge, they managed to get themselves onto a small island in the middle of the lagoon. Together with police search and rescue we lowered ourselves down the side of the bridge and into the water to rescue them,” said Kenyon.
“With the aid of flotation devices, we swam the couple roughly 1 kilometre across the lagoon to the safety of dry land and after we assessed the couple, we found they were uninjured in the incident,” he added.
