Deface of Juju!

Last week the streets of Ballito and Shaka’s Head were plastered with red and yellow Economic Freedom Fighters election posters, that seemingly materialised over night.

No surface was deemed sacred, with walls, bridges, bus shelters and with not even the statue of King Shaka in Shakas’ Head escaping the red and yellow.

There are strict by-laws governing the placement of advertising and election campaign posters are not exempt.

Political parties and anyone wishing to advertise on municipal street poles pay a fee to do so.

Also the EFF posters have been glued down, making them difficult to remove.

KwaDukuza municipality spokesperson Sphelelo Ngobese said any street poster authorised by KDM will have the municipality’s logo, as a stamp of approval.

“If there is no logo, it means KDM does not know about that advert or poster,” said Ngobese.

None of the EFF posters have the KDM logo.

EFF provisional secretary Rebbecca Mohlala denied responsibility for putting up the posters. She said their members knew the rules and processes to be followed to put up posters.

“It must be someone who loves the EFF, so he or she had put up those posters. It was not our members, they know the rules,” said Mohlala.

However, KwaDukuza municipality spokesperson Sifiso Zulu said they had since made contact with the local EFF office, instructing them to remove the posters.

” EFF representative Thobekile Nkosi promised to rectify the problem,” said Zulu.

However to date nothing has been done and the

posters continue to deface the town.
