Strikers block Imbonini business park entrance

The strikers are not permitting anyone to enter Imbonini business park this morning.

This morning workers on strike have barricaded the entrance to Imbonini business park in Shaka’s Head.

“There are about 150 people at Imbonini and they have broken the fence and are using to to prevent anyone from entering,” said Umhlali SAPS’s warrant officer Vinny Pillay from the scene.

He said at this stage, the people were peaceful but that they are monitoring the situation.

Yesterday rumours that a factory in Imbonini Park in Shaka’s Head had been set alight by protesters were unfounded.

The smoke that sparked fears that protest action had returned to the township was from the burning of a single tyre outside the gates of Boxer Meat factory, temporarily closed due to the strike.

Wage negotiations with the almost 300-strong workforce appear to have broken down.

The police are at the factory, monitoring the strike.
