Black Coffee wins at BET Awards in LA

Black Coffee was awarded Best International Act Africa at the 2016 BET Awards held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles

Durban born DJ and music producer, Black Coffee was awarded Best International Act Africa at the 2016 BET Awards held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

To celebrate his epic achievement and to celebrate his birthday, the KwaDukuza municipality and the department of arts and culture honored Black Coffee (born Nkosinathi Maphumulo on 11 March 1976) with a gala dinner held on Monday night at the Fairmont Zimballi Hotel.

“We are proud to host this auspicious gathering in honour of a South African who is strongly rooted in this province of KwaZulu-Natal. Dj Black coffee has been a rising star and continues to be an inspiration to both young and old in the province and country at large. Many of the many young people in this region look up to you for inspiration,” said KwaDukuza mayor, Ricardo Mthembu.

The gala dinner was attended by, among others, DJ Fresh and home affairs minister, Malusi Gigaba.

The 2016 Best International Act Africa was highly contested by eight deserving artists: Aka (South Africa), Cassper Nyovest (South Africa), Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Mzvee (Ghana), Serge Beynaud (Cote D’ivoire), Wizkid (Nigeria), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), and the winner Black Coffee (South Africa).

Other category winners included Beyoncé, Serena Williams, Drake and Sameul L Jackson.
