Gumede backed for Ilembe District mayor
ANC Greater KwaDukuza spokesperson, Lucky Makhathini said the people should know that mayors are deployed by the ANC and they are not voted for.
Former KwaDukuza mayor, Sduduzo Gumede is the African National Congress district mayoral candidate for Ilembe for the 2016 local government elections.
The Greater KwaDukuza ANC branch has also announced that its deputy chairperson, Maxwell Chili, will be the mayoral candidate for Ndwendwe municipality and the deputy secretary, Zibuyile Khuzwayo Dlamini is the candidate for Maphumulo municipality. Mandeni and KwaDukuza municipality mayors, Sphesihle Zulu and Ricardo Mthembu respectively, were redeployed in their positions.
This was announced by the ANC Greater KwaDukuza spokesperson, Lucky Makhathini at the party’s regional offices in KwaDukuza last Friday.
Makhathini said the people should know that mayors are deployed by the ANC and they are not voted for.
“They were chosen by the national executive committee as the candidates who are fit to stand as mayors of our municipalities in Ilembe,” said Makhathini.
Sduduzo Gumede said he will work for unity and co-ordination between the municipalities. He said he believes that government should be more responsive to the people and they should be part of the government of their area.
“We have realised that, when we attended most of the recent protests, the problem was the people did not feel that they were part of the government and that their views were not taken seriously. Therefore, I think that by engagaging them in our strategies and listening to their complaints and discussing with them, we will be able to work together properly,” said Gumede.
Chilli said he will have to deal with the factions within the Ndwedwe municipality council and bring unity among the councillors.
It was reported that councillors of Ndwendwe municipality are divided into two opposing groups, one in favour of the speaker and the other in favour of the mayor. Chilli said this should come to an end and service delivery be made the priority.
