WATCH: Hazelmere emergency pipeline is working

Watch this video to see water gushing from the emergency pipeline between the Tongaar River and Hazelmere Dam.

The gurgling sound of gushing water greeted The North Coast Courier journos at the outflow point of the emergency pipeline that has been a lifeline to the Hazelmere Dam for just over a year to date.

With the level at 44.49 per cent, the Hazelmere Dam is in a far better state than it was a year ago when it dropped to a critically low 26 percent.

This is partially due to the success of the emergency pipeline, built by Umgeni Water, that still today transfers around eight million litres per day from the Tongaat River to the Hazelmere Dam.
