ANC addresses Shaka’s Head protesters

All main roads are open to motorists.

The Shakas’s Head protesters have gathered at the open ground near KwaMama where they are being addressed by ANC regional office’s Sduduzo Gumede (mayoral candidate for iLembe) this afternoon.

Protesters barricaded the Shaka’s Head bridge and the N2 Shaka’s Head off-ramp early this morning.

About 150 people were burning tyres and stoning vehicles.

Umhlali SAPS spokesman, Vinny Pillay said the protest was a reaction to the arrest of seven men for arson in connection with burning down Councillor Jetro Banda’s house and car earlier this year.

“Six of the seven men arrested  have been released on R2000 bail each.

“One man is being held as he has another case pending,” said Pillay.

The N2, R102 and link roads are open.
