Blessings flow for Frasers community

Veersamy said that since the temple has opened, he noticed that it does not attract just Indian people but people of all races and cultures.

For years more that 200 Hindu residents of Frasers, fueled by their faith walked 16 kilometres to central Tongaat, simply to pray. Now for the first time, the community has a temple in their own back yard.

Mevin Veersamy, chairman of the religious organisation said, “Having a place to pray is of deep importance to people. The temple itself is small but it was necessary. There are two people who really took the plight of the people into consideration and that is Don Moodley from Professional Fleet Service and Ashwin Mathdora from Home Art Signs, receptively they assisted financially in building the temple and provided the signage.”

Veersamy said that since the temple has opened, he noticed that it does not attract just Indian people but people of all races and cultures.

“God is God, and when people need to pray, this is where they come to. When their prayers are answered, they donate fruits to our mothers Kali and Moothumari, who we have statues of. We believe that the goddess, Moothumari, helps people and comes to humble places such as this. She is the Godesss of rain and pearls.”

During big prayers the Frasers temple attracts more than 400 people. Veersamy and other members breed and sell poultry to buy vegetables to feed to the influx of people during prayer.

“We would like for people to be able to come to the temple, sit and have a meal, not just to take their food. It makes it difficult with our limited recourse for people to do this.”

The temple is in need of tables and chairs. It is also Veersamy’s dream to raise enough funds to build a kitchen on the premises.
