Localised flooding starts in KZN

Roads are flooding and motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution.

Social media is being swamped with pictures, videos and reports of flooding across KZN.

The downpour is expected to continue until Wednesday (60 per cent chance) with no rain expected on Thursday and Friday according to the SA Weather Service.

The weather service warns of gale force north easterly winds later tonight and tomorrow, reaching a speed of 35 to 40 knots accompanied by high seas with 6 metre to 6.5 metre waves.

From 8am this morning to 2.30pm today, the weather service measured 30.8mm in Durban, 56.6mm in La Mercy and 51.4mm in Mt Edgecombe.

On the Dolphin Coast local WhatsApp groups have reported that three trees have fallen over, blocking Wilkes Road, Lagoon Drive and Simbithi Drive, and a large pothole has opened up in Leonora Drive.

The Shakaskraal Old Age Home is flooded, along with some of the town.

Localised flooding has been reported between Stanger and Durban with a number of main roads under water.

Drive with extreme caution.
