Man clings to tree for two hours to escape flooding, Umhlali

Rescue teams used a rubber duck to rescue him.

A man who had sought refuge in a tree to escape the rising water on a farm outside Umhlali had to be rescued this afternoon.

The security guard was looking after farming equipment when he was caught in the rising water levels.

“He took shelter from the water in a nearby tree he and had been stuck there for about two hours before the call went out to IPSS and SAPS K9 Search and Rescue,” said IPSS medical Rescue’s Dylan Meyrick.

“K9 Search and Rescue used an inflatable raft to recover the man from the tree. He was very cold but all in all, in good condition.”
