Umdloti mired in flood waters

A number of vehicles are trapped in the sand on North Beach Road, Umdloti.

Flooding has caused chaos across the North Coast with hundreds of homes flooded.

North Beach Road in Umdloti is covered in wet dune sand that has trapped numerous vehicles.

The North Cost Courier journalist, Jacqueline Herbst, who lives in Umdloti reported that she and many others cannot get home.

“North Beach Road is covered in wet dune sand making it impossible for vehicles to get through,” she said.

“Many of my neighbours have sand banked against their back doors and many houses here are flooded, including my own.

“The dune sand just sucks you up to your knees. The tide is coming in and splashing onto the road here. Torrents of muddy water are cascading down four flights of stairs in some apartments.”
