Let the building begin at OceanDune

The 1 000 hectare development, which is planned to be made up of 60 per cent green space, was sold out within four months, with the majority of buyers being permanent residents.

Sibaya Coastal Precinct‘s first site, OceanDune, was recently handed over by Tongaat Hulett to the new landowners and developers, OceanDune Developments, to start construction on the sold-out development this month.

Sibaya Development Executive for Tongaat Hulett Developments, Sithembiso Mthembu said the handover was a major milestone for them.

“With construction now finally starting, Sibaya Coastal Precinct is a reality. OceanDune is reflective of bringing our vision to life through their approach to environmental sensitivity and to contributing toward a thriving, interconnected community that underpins our philosophy of reconnect, rediscover.”

The 1000 hectare development, which is planned to be made up of 60 per cent green space, was sold out within four months, with the majority of buyers being permanent residents. A retail element will bring total investment to about R1 billion.

Residents of the bordering Umdloti village have raised concerns about the issue of safety during the construction process and the protection of the forest on the border, which Mthembu said they have made provision for.

“The erection of the fence, which will be patrolled and monitored, is a critical factor in the development process. Not only will it ensure that silt run-off into the forest during construction is limited, it will also prevent unlawful access into the forest.”

Construction started this month and OceanDune developments’ Charles Thompson said they will try limit any effect on traffic in the coming months.

“Development related traffic will be diverted to ensure minimal impact and maintain a steady flow of traffic on the M4 and around the Sibaya Drive circle,” said Thompson.
