Doctors who care

Nzungane felt compassion for these children and opened the doors of her own home to care for them.

Stanger hospital and Maximum Output Institute came together to put smiles on dials at Masibathathande Care Centre in Lindenlani, outside KwaDukuza,

Masibathande is non-profit organisation that was established by Senelisiwe Nzungane in 2011 to care for children with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Down’s Syndrome and those with HIV.

Some of the children were abandoned by their teenage parents, while others have been placed there by parents unable to cope with disabilities.

Nzungane felt compassion for these children and opened the doors of her own home to care for them.

Sthembiso Mhlanga, founder of Maximum Output Institute said they had seen how she was struggling to feed and meet the needs of the children in her own house, which was falling apart.

“She has played a significant role in caring for these children through her own monthly income and through the assistance received from the social workers in Stanger Hospital, ensuring that these children have social grants. As a result, Maximum Output Institute in partnership with Stanger hospital embarked on an outreach project to assist them,” he said.

The centre received R14 000 and food and clothing valued at R8 000 and teams of people from both organisations put in some elbow grease to improve the condition of her home.

The four-room house’s doors, curtains rails and light bulbs were replaced and a fresh coast of paint and fun murals now brighten the walls.
