Search called off for teen swept out at Umdloti
The 19-year-old young man has not been found.
Three jetskis, an NSRI boat and even a drone patrolled the ocean for about three hours today to try and find a 19-year-old young man who was washed out to sea when swimming at Umdloti today.
“The two, young friends went for a swim at an unmanned section of Umdloti Beach when they got into trouble,” said IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst.
While the slightly older friend, Gerhard Moist, was rescued by lifeguards, his friend was swept under the waves at around midday.
According to an unconfirmed Facebook post on a group for Umdloti residents eMdloti Umdloti 568 community by Caryl Smith, the missing teen is called Riland and was here on holiday from Johannesburg with his friend.
The search will continue tomorrow.
