Children’s painting auctions for R65 000
Founder of Bloom, Nikki Stirton said she was amazed by the generosity of the bidders at the fund-raising auction.
An auction held at the Simibithi Country Club last night to raise funds for Bloom School for children with special needs in Salt Rock exceeded everyone’s expectations when one of the paintings done by the school’s pupils was auctioned for R65 000.
The painting was taken home by a generous Simbithi resident after a fierce bidding battle, all in the spirit of the event.
The school’s benefactor, who is an avid supporter of Bloom, asked not to be named.
Bidding was generous across the board and another of the children’s paintings went for an astounding R42 000.
A great number of items were sponsored to be auctioned, such as signed rugby jerseys, furniture, bikes and professional paintings, with the paintings done by the creative, budding artists from Bloom School, all bringing in much needed money to the school’s coffers.
The final tally of money raised has not yet been completed.
One of the founders of Bloom, Nikki Stirton said she was amazed by the generosity of the bidders.

“The children did the paintings with love. This is a beautiful picture of what it looks like to serve together and we are truly grateful,” said Stirton.
Bloom was founded in 2013 by Stirton and Jess Roux.
They started the school with six children and have in three years doubled the number of pupils and expanded their learning areas.
The school caters for children who have a variety of diagnosis including Down Syndrome, Autism, Low IQ, non-specified learning difficulties and children who are not coping in mainstream schools.
The fund-raising dinner, including entertainment by Aaron Mcilroy was held on the back-end of a successful golf day for the school
