Renowned economist Dawie Roodt to visit Ballito
Roodt says in his book, Tax, Lies and Red Tape, that economics is not about numbers, graphs and statistics; it is about people, and about how they react to incentives.
Nationally renowned economist, specialising in monetary and fiscal policy, Dawie Roodt will give a talk entitled, “This is us, a demographic overview” at Ilembe Business Leaders engagement lunch at Collisheen, just outside Ballito next week.
Dawie, the founder, director and chief economist of the Efficient Group, will share with Ilembe business leaders a fresh approach to explaining our current economic dilemma of lower global growth, omnipotent central bankers, violent strikes, a possible market-correction, and an ideologically confused ruling party.
According to Roodt, it all ties into demographics.
“It starts by understanding that we’ve come a long way since our hunter-gatherer days and that there will always be challenges.
“Now, in the onset of the 4th industrial revolution, more jobs will fall to smart robots.
“It all seems to flow from demographic changes in societies; societies who are now more dependent and grow old before they become rich,” said Roodt who has presented more than 800 television and 1500 radio programmes, been economic editor for a financial magazine and columnist for a number of publications.
Ha has also authored the book, Tax, Lies and Red Tape (2013) in which he discusses what he believes to be the reasons of South Africa’s poor economy.
Rood argues that economics is not about numbers, graphs and statistics; it is about people, and about how they react to incentives.
The talk promises to be relevant, informative and educational and will be held in Collisheen Estate’s Orchid Room on Thursday, September 8 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.
Booking is essential, email reception@ilembechamber.co.za.
