N2 roadworks between Umdloti and Stanger, here to stay
While it often looks like nothing is happening on the other side of the orange cones, causing mild road rage for some, South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) assures us work is being done.
Fill your flash drive with good music and pick up a chamomile tea-to-go before heading onto the N2 between Umdloti and Stanger, as the roadworks and subsequent traffic is staying until next year.
While it often looks like nothing is happening on the other side of the orange cones, causing mild road rage for some, South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) assures us work is being done.
SANRAL project manager for the Eastern region, Ridwaan Mahomed said periodic maintenance of the concrete surfacing is being carried out, causing sections of the road to be narrowed down to one lane.
“The concrete sections of the N2 between Umdloti and New Guelderland north of (KwaDukuza), on both north and south bound lanes are being maintained. This entails repairs and replacement of the shattered and cracked concrete slabs. The interchanges are also being resurfaced,” said Mahomed.
The roadworks started in February this year and are going to last until next year.
“The improvements are expected to be completed within the first half of 2017. It is taking longer because traffic flow has to be maintained during rehabilitation of the road surface.”
Until then, it might be wise to learn a few calming breathing exercises, take a stress ball with you and leave 10 minutes earlier if you have to use the N2.
