SA’s 2016 crime statistics at a glance
The stats reveal a slight decrease in reported crime in the KwaDukuza region.
The minister of police, Nkosinathi Nhleko and the Acting Commissioner, Lt General Khomotso Phahlane briefed the porfolio committee and the media on the latest crime statistics collated by the South Africa Police (SAPS) last Friday.
- Robbery at residential is up 2.7%: increasing to 195 982 from last year’s 20 820.
- Robbery at non-residential premises: increasing to 157 054 from last year’s 19 698.

- Crimes related to bodily harm showed a drastic increase with murder up 3.2% ( from last years 18 673 to 211 161).

- Burglary at residential premises although at a high of 992, decreased from 1044 last year.
- Drug related crime has shown a increase of 174 from last year at 1168 to this year at 1342.
- Assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm is at a high showing an increase of one to 472 from last year’s 471.
- Murder has decreased from 69 to 52.
- Sexual offenses decreased from 197 to 171.
