Creamy doughnut franchise to expand into KZN in 2017

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts South Africa will open an all new store at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping in Umhlanga in March 2017.

Gateway, voted the best Shopping Centre by the Daily News Your Choice awards in 2014 and 2015, will be the home to the first Krispy Kreme store outside of Gauteng.

“Krispy Kreme South Africa is extremely proud and excited to ‘share the joy that is Krispy Kreme’ with Durban and create wonderful memories,” said Krispy Kreme South Africa CEO, Gerry Thomas.

Krispy Kreme is an international brand that has been around for 79 years and with Gateway being one of Africa’s leading and most prestigious shopping centers, the opening of this Krispy Kreme store symbolizes a prominent step in the brand’s local journey.

Following the flagship store launch in 2015, four additional Krispy Kreme stores have opened this year with locations at the Sandton Gautrain, the Mall of Africa, Clearwater Mall and Sandton City respectively.

Still with two more stores to open in 2016 at Menlyn Park shopping Centre in late November and Eastgate in December, Krispy Kreme plans to reach even more South Africans before the year comes to a close.

“Krispy Kreme South Africa are very fortunate to have secured a prime location in Gateway Theatre of Shopping, making this launch all the more exciting!” said Thomas.

“The store’s position is also well situated as the smaller Krispy Kreme fresh stores planned for Durban’s other major shopping centers will be supplied out of the Gateway factory production store.”

The store will be located at G350, Palm Boulevard.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts was founded in Winston-Salem, NC on July 13, 1937, and it has become known through the years for high-quality sweet treats and premium coffee, both across the US and internationally.

The company opened its doors in South Africa on November  25 2015 and has since created lifelong fans, as memories have been made and joyful moments shared at all five of the Johannesburg based stores.
