ANC is under attack, says Zuma at ANC forum meeting – KwaDukuza

President Jacob Zuma accused “certain foreign countries” of paying people to attack him and the African National Congress.

Speaking at the ANC cadres forum meeting held at the KwaDukuza town hall last Saturday, Zuma said their aim was to destabilise the country.

“These people – I forget their names – have the economic power and they are using it to buy people in the ANC to turn their backs against the party. They have said it before, that you can – not destroy the ANC but it will destroy itself. That time has arrived and we need to be careful of those people, who are paid by people against the economic power of the South African people,” said Zuma.

The president is facing growing calls from within and outside the ANC for his resignation.

His speech on Saturday reflected what his critics say is a well-worn tactic – to play the victim. In a thinly-veiled attack on white-controlled big business, Zuma said there are three pillars of the state: political, economic and security power.

“These people still have the most important pillar. When you have the economic power, you can manipulate the other two pillars – political and security”

He accused Western countries of taking against the ANC because of its close ties with Russia and China through BRICS, an affiliation of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

When former ANC president Oliver Tambo was sent to Western countries in 1959 to to ask for help to fight the apartheid government, they refused to help. But socialist countries like Russia and China offered help for free.

“We fought and we won. Now they see that we have not forgotten those who helped us. But the BRICS is what brought us into hot water because they know what it means. These countries have the biggest economy and two of these countries, Russia and China, are among the biggest in the world. They are members of the United Nations Security Council, so it is a very powerful group,”

He said these countries want the ANC to die or for it to be led by their favourites.

“They said I have joined the BRICS and I will influence other African countries, so I am dangerous. So, those who are saying I must resign, they are following an instruction from the people who paid them. Even the president after me will be attacked’ said Zuma”

He said at some other time people will know how much had been paid to get him off the president seat.
