Contact DAFF to report illegal fishing and poaching
Many people are still confused as to who to report illegal coastal activities to.
Earlier this year Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife stood aside to let the Department of Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) take over the responsibility of policing the coast, leaving many people uncertain who to contact to report illegal fishing activities and the like.
“People are still phoning us at Ezemvelo to report illegal activities, when most coastal areas are now the DAFF’s responsibility,” said Ezemvelo’s Lionel van Schoor.
Ezemvelo still polices activity in Marine Protected Areas, but the rest of the coast falls under DAFF’s jurisdiction.
To report poaching, illegal fishing, gill netting etc. contact the DAFF’s Thanduxolo Ntshangase on 079 444 9951.
