Countdown to retail mania: new mall’s entertainment focus
The Urban eatery on the ground floor is an open-plan food court with a mix of restaurants.
Eight Nu Metro cinemas, including an Imax and a 4-D theatre, are at the centre focus of entertainment at the Ballito Junction Regional Mall, scheduled to open on March 23 next year.
In an interview with The Courier, the newly appointed CEO Geraldine Jorgensen described the mall as an asset to Ballito.
“The Urban eatery on the ground floor is an open-plan food court with a mix of restaurants including high-end Beluga and Beluga Pan Asia restaurant, Casa Bella, Spur and Simply Asia.
“The mall will have a selection of outside/inside dining options so customers can enjoy their meals in comfort, despite the weather,” said Jorgensenn.
Having spent the last six years at Gateway Theatre of Shopping, the Salt Rock resident is a born and bred property professional with extensive shopping centre and property management experience.
With just 112 days left to go until the grand opening, shopfitting for some of the anchor tenants starts as soon as next week and the majority of the 240 tenants will prepare their stores early in the new year.
The mall’s tenants had a unique opportunity last Thursday to view the progress and get a lesson in the rules that follow once the 80 000 square metre building is open for business.
Full of excitement for the new venture, tenant Richard Wyss from Innovative Hair said he saw the mall as a perfect business investment.
“I do not think that this mall will take as long as Gateway or Pavilion to get busy. It will be busy from the word go. People from Richard’s Bay and Empangeni will also flock here. It is so exciting for Ballito,” said Wyss.
Once operational the mall will provide up to 1 500 permanent and part-time jobs of which about 80 per cent will be filled by locals, sustaining an estimated 10 000 people.
Ballito Junction will operate seven days a week from 9am to 7pm from Monday to Saturday and from 9am to 5pm on Sundays and public holidays. Visitors will also have free parking for the first hour.
The Junction mall has expanded from the current 40 shops adding 200 more. The mall features regional to super regional stores like Pick n Pay, Checkers, Edgars, Truworths, NuMetro, Mr Price and Foshini Group.
Visitors can also look forward to a few big names coming to Ballito for the first time, including Typo, Cotton On, Addidas, Buluga, Casa Bella, Tread + Miller, Turn n Tender Steak House, Big Blue, Tashas, RVC, Keedo Kids, Rubi Shoes, Gold Rush Bingo and Entertainment, Exclusive Books, Browns, Polo, Coricraft and Cotton Body.
Shopping and entertainment will both be an option with an urban eatery, interactive radio station, 21 Jump Street play centre and eight cinemas including Imax, 4D and VIP cinemas.
Having so many options at their fingertips, visitors will never have to worry about being strapped for cash with six banks, FNB, ABSA, Capitec, Standard Bank, African Bank and Nedbank.
