The lady in charge of KDM police
The friendly Eshowe-born lady said she is enjoying her stay in KwaDukuza and the community has already earned a soft spot in her heart.
The KwaDukuza police station is under the leadership of a new “no nonsense” station commander.
Brigadier Sbongile Mhlongo said getting feedback from the community about the work they do as police, is something that makes her sleep with a smile on her face.
“Whether it is good or bad, it is the only way to see if we are going the right direction or not. If the police have done something good, it helps to build the confidence of the members,” said Mhlongo.
Mhlongo joined the police in 1995 and she has been a station commander at Jozini and Westville police stations.
The friendly Eshowe-born lady said she is enjoying her stay in KwaDukuza and the community has already earned a soft spot in her heart.
“I always tell my members to put themselves in the shoes of the victims and always remember that we are public servants,” said Mhlongo.
Teamed with Brigadier Mhlongo and in charge of uniformed police is Colonel Tholakele Ntshaletshali from Emacambini, Mandeni.
Ntshaletshali joined the police in 1986 and moved to KwaDukuza police station last month.
“She is my front line, if she goes wrong everything will be wrong. She is the one in charge of all the police in uniform and at the charge office, while I deal with the station as a whole,” said Mhlongo.
Both women believe that it is only through building a strong relationship with the community based on trust, that the station will suceed in its mandate to protect the its citizens and bring criminals to book.
Mhlongo urged residents of KwaDukuza to feel free to contact her at 082 376 2591.
