Woman dies in Mandeni house fire
The fire is thought to have started in a bedroom.
A fire broke out at 27 Inyala Road, Mandeni just before 4am this morning killing one woman who was trapped inside the house, in a room that was inaccessible due to the fire.
“A man was also critically injured and had to be intubated and ventilated.
“Entry to the house was gained through a window and rescuers managed to rescue a man.
“The man was rushed to hospital where he is in an unstable condition,” said IPSS Medical Rescue‘s Paul Herbst.
“A member of the public, not in the house at the time was trying to assist the people in the house, suffered minor inhalation burns.
“The family dog also died in the fire.”
Herbst said the fire was thought to have started in a bedroom.
Sappi and Mandeni Fire Departments doused the flames.
“The call came in at about 3.30pm and a respondent crew from Mandeni fire arrived in 10 minutes,” said Mandeni fire department spokesman, Des Mullen.
“The fire was burning fiercely.
