Zuma’s surprise visit
Zuma spoke boldly about removing councillors who are not wanted by their communities
President Jacob Zuma promised ANC supporters that the issue of gate keeping and manipulation of the candidate selection process will be resolved.
Speaking to thousands of party fans at the KwaDukuza Recreation Grounds on Sunday, Zuma vowed to see an end to the issues that were behind the violent election protests last year.
The party president’s unexpected arrival at the ANC’s 105th birthday anniversary celebration was met with much delight from the huge crowd.
When he took to the stage Zuma spoke boldly about removing councillors who are not wanted by their communities.
Gate keeping, manipulation, intimidation and nepotism were reported as the key tools used by councillors who did not want to step down last year.

“It has come to our attention that we have been giving you councillors that you do not like, we are working on that. We know that there are people who manipulated the process of selecting a candidate, we are working on that too. We are proposing to attend the branch meeting when a candidate will be selected. We want to shut all the doors to possible error,” said Zuma.
He further emphasised the importance of unity in the ANC.
Former KZN Premier Senzo Mchunu was another unexpected attendee at the anniversary celebration, after he was removed from office in a recent provincial reshuffle.
