Ballito Neighbourhood Watch pumped up and ready

Another initiative that the committee will carry out this year is the evaluation of local security companies

Creating street clusters and evaluating local security companies are two priorities for the Ballito Neighborhood Watch committee this year.

With dedication and technology on their side, the 11 members whose goal is to maintain a safe and secure area are all set and ready for action.

BNW secretary Candice Henderson said the group had one large project in 2017, which was to create street clusters for all the streets that fall within the BNW geographic area.

“This is a project where one or two cluster captains will be elected from the BNW committee to represent each road or street within the area we cover.

Depending on the amount of homes on the street, the cluster captains will form a street communication platform via either a Whatsapp group or meeting in person. We believe that this will allow smaller groups of the community who live near each other to communicate for the purpose of creating a sense of community, safety and security.

Clusters will provide a two way channel of communication where even issues like faulty street lights, overhanging trees and potholes could be reported.”

Another initiative that the committee will carry out this year is the evaluation of local security companies.

Henderson said that this initiative was brought about because the BNW committee members are often asked by community members to recommend security companies.

“We feel that the most unbiased way to do this, is to have a factual evaluation of local security providers and to then share the information we obtain with the community.” For more information email Candice Henderson.
